BioCom Lab – Intra-Body Sensor Network

J2 Holding developed the circuit design and layout for a sensor tag used in the BioCom Lab research project on intra-body communication and future e-health systems.
BioCom Lab, led by RISE/Acreo, investigated concepts for networks of sensors, bioelectronic devices and communication systems that could be used for future personalized healthcare.
The concept included wearable or body-connected sensors for collecting physiological and environmental information and communicating this information to other parts of the system.
J2 development work
J2 Holding was responsible for the schematic design and circuit-board layout of a sensor tag that communicated with a main unit.
The communication system did not use NFC or conventional radio communication. Instead, communication between the sensor tag and the main unit was based on capacitive coupling. The two units had to be in physical contact for the communication link to operate.
This approach allowed the sensor electronics and communication interface to form part of the body-connected system without requiring a conventional radio link between the tag and the main unit.
Research project
The broader BioCom Lab project explored an intra-body network combining sensors, communication technology and bioelectronic devices, with the long-term goal of enabling monitoring and feedback systems for future healthcare applications.
