NFC Production and Installation Systems

J2 Holding was contracted by Thinfilm to develop, adapt and install parts of systems used for NFC-enabled products and production lines.
The work included development and construction of system components, as well as optimization of the resonant NFC antenna circuits used for inductive coupling between the reader and the NFC tags.
J2 Holding also integrated sensors and other industrial equipment with the NFC systems. Capacitive and inductive proximity sensors were, for example, used to detect products moving through production equipment and to trigger NFC operations at the correct time.
Installation and commissioning
The work extended beyond development and prototyping. J2 Holding travelled to customer sites to install, commission and troubleshoot the systems in their actual production environments.
Installations included different types of production lines and applications in several locations. One example was an NFC installation at a production line in Denmark for hair-styling products.
Kilchoman Distillery
One application of Thinfilm's NFC technology was deployed at Kilchoman Distillery, a producer of single-malt Scotch whisky. NFC was incorporated into its bottling and consumer-engagement system.
According to the original project information, post-campaign analysis showed a consumer engagement rate of 6.5 percent through NFC.
